Post-Mastectomy Incision Healing

August 7, 2019

I am 8 weeks out from my mastectomy surgery. Today, I met with my amazing plastic surgeon and while my incisions have not closed yet, I was told that this is a common problem. Due to the lack of blood supply, post-mastectomy, incision healing is very difficult. We are trying some antibiotic cream on my incisions and still using bandages for 2 more weeks.

I am almost there, but not quite. I am still restricted from walking the dogs and lifting anything over 10 pounds. This is my first very big frustration with the healing process. I have to work and my sales job requires lifting product bags, so this is a major set back for me.

What I can tell you is that I will be following the rules, as I do not want any further set backs. Do not lift more than 10 pounds, if you are told not to and do not walk your dogs, if you are told not to do that either.

I will get there, it is just going to take a bit longer than I thought. It’s just part of the process. I go back to see my plastic surgeon in two weeks and while I am there, I am going to take advantage of a few more of his great services – Botox and Facial! A girl can still pamper herself during mastectomy healing!
